It was a hot summer evening when Ravi and his friends decided to take a dip in a small canal near their village. The canal was narrow, quiet, and surrounded by tall
grass. Older villagers had always warned them not to swim there after sunset.
Ravi laughed at the warnings and jumped into the cold water.
After a few minutes, he felt something brush against his ankle. Thinking it was
a branch, he ignored it. But suddenly, something pulled his leg hard.
Ravi screamed and tried to swim back. His friends grabbed his arms and dragged him
onto the bank.
That night, Ravi couldn't sleep. At exactly 3:00 a.m., he heard dripping water inside his room.
Drip... drip... drip...
He
opened his eyes and saw wet footprints leading from his bedroom door to his bed.
Then he heard a whisper beside his ear.
“Why did you leave me underwater?”
Ravi froze.
The next morning, his friends found him
standing beside the canal, staring into the water. He kept repeating the same sentence:
“She is still down there.”
When villagers searched the canal, they found an old silver anklet buried in the mud.
Since that day, nobody has dared to take a dip there after sunset.
