Every night after the final bell, strange sounds came from beneath the school. Students heard scratching, whispering, and sometimes a child crying.
One rainy evening, Aman and his friend Rohit decided to investigate.
They found a loose floorboard in the storage room. Beneath it was a narrow staircase leading underground.
Their flashlight revealed an ancient corridor covered with children's names.
At the end stood a locked wooden door.
Suddenly, someone knocked from the other side.
“Please let me out,” a child's voice whispered.
Aman unlocked the door.
Inside was a classroom frozen in time. Broken desks surrounded a blackboard covered with hundreds of names. The final name was Aman's.
The door slammed shut.
A cold wind extinguished their flashlight, and dozens of children's voices began chanting, “New student… new student…”
Rohit screamed and ran toward the stairs.
Aman followed, but the staircase had disappeared.
Behind him, a teacher's voice whispered, “Class is starting.”
He turned.
A tall woman in an old-fashioned school uniform stood there, holding a register.
The next morning, Rohit was found unconscious outside the school.
Aman was missing.
Since then, every night at midnight, teachers hear a voice answering attendance:
“Present, ma'am.”
It is always Aman's voice.
