After escaping the abandoned hut, Ravi and Sameer ran deeper into the jungle. Darkness surrounded them, and the trees seemed to move with every gust of wind.
Suddenly, they heard footsteps behind them.
They stopped.
The footsteps stopped too.
“Who’s there?” Sameer whispered.
No answer.
Then a low voice came from the darkness.
“You should never have returned.”
Ravi turned on his flashlight. For a second, he saw a tall figure standing between the trees. Its face was hidden, but its eyes glowed strangely.
The light flickered.
The figure disappeared.
They started running again, but the forest seemed endless. Suddenly, Sameer grabbed Ravi’s arm.
Ahead of them stood an old wooden bridge.
On the other side was the same abandoned hut they had escaped from.
“That’s impossible,” Ravi whispered.
A cold wind blew behind them.
They slowly turned.
The tall figure was standing only a few steps away.
It smiled and pointed toward the hut.
Inside the darkness, someone began crying.
Them Ravi heard a familiar voice.
“Ravi… help me.”
It was his own voice.
The figure suddenly rushed toward them.
Ravi screamed and closed his eyes.
When he opened them, Sameer was gone.
Only his flashlight remained on the ground, still glowing in the darkness.
