Everyone in the village warned Arjun never to enter the abandoned mansion on the hill. They said its windows glowed at midnight and that anyone who entered heard a child whispering their name.
One stormy night, Arjun decided to prove the rumors wrong.
Inside, the mansion smelled of damp wood and old ashes. Dust covered the furniture, but strangely, a fresh trail of footprints led toward the basement.
Arjun followed them.
At the bottom, he discovered a locked wooden door. Scratched across it were three words:
“DON’T WAKE HER.”
Suddenly, a child’s voice whispered behind him, “You came back.”
Arjun turned around.
A pale girl stood in the darkness, holding an old photograph. She looked exactly like a woman in a portrait hanging upstairs.
“She was my mother,” the girl whispered. “They buried her alive beneath this house.”
The floor began shaking.
A hidden staircase opened behind the wall, revealing an underground room. Inside was an old coffin covered with chains.
Then the chains snapped.
A woman slowly sat up.
Arjun screamed and ran upstairs. The girl followed silently.
When villagers arrived the next morning, Arjun was gone.
Only his shoes remained near the basement door.
And on the mansion wall, a new photograph appeared—showing Arjun standing beside the pale girl, both smiling.
The villagers never entered the mansion again.
