When Daniel moved into his grandmother’s old house, he noticed a strange portrait hanging at the end of the hallway. It showed a young woman
wearing a white dress, staring directly at anyone who passed.
The first night, Daniel heard faint crying.
He followed the sound and stopped beneath
the portrait.
The woman in the painting had tears running down her cheeks.
Daniel froze.
He wiped the portrait with his hand, but
the tears returned immediately.
The next morning, he asked his grandmother about it.
She became pale.
“Never touch that
painting,” she whispered. “Your great-aunt disappeared forty years ago. That portrait was painted the night before she vanished.”
That night, Daniel
heard crying again.
This time, the woman in the portrait was standing closer to the edge of the frame.
Daniel stepped backward.
Her
eyes slowly moved toward him.
Then she whispered, “Please open the door.”
Suddenly, a locked door appeared behind the portrait.
Daniel heard someone knocking from inside.
He grabbed a hammer and
smashed the frame.
The crying stopped.
But behind the painting was an old photograph of Daniel’s great-aunt.
Written on the back were four words:
“She is still waiting.”
Daniel turned toward the hallway.
The woman was no longer inside the portrait.
A cold hand touched his shoulder.
Then the crying began again—directly behind him.
