It was almost midnight when I realized I was completely alone in the house.
My parents had gone to a wedding, and I had decided to stay home. Outside, heavy rain hit the windows, while the wind made strange noises through the trees.
At exactly 12:17 a.m., I heard three knocks on the front door.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
I froze.
I checked the security camera, but there was nobody outside. Thinking it was the wind, I returned to my room.
A few minutes later, I heard footsteps in the hallway.
Slowly… one step after another.
I grabbed my phone and turned on the flashlight. The hallway was empty.
Then my bedroom door suddenly moved.
I had locked it.
My heart started pounding as a whisper came from the other side.
“Are you alone?”
I couldn't breathe.
The voice sounded exactly like my mother's.
I called her immediately. She answered after a few seconds.
“Listen carefully,” she whispered. “Don't open the door.”
“Why?” I asked.
Her voice trembled.
“Because I'm still at the wedding.”
At that moment, the footsteps stopped.
Then something scratched slowly across my bedroom door.
I stayed silent until morning.
When my parents finally returned, we found deep scratch marks on the door.
But the terrifying part was this—
They were made from inside my room.
